Do inactive corporations still have to file a T2 return?

Yes. Most resident corporations, including many inactive corporations, still have to file a T2 return for every tax year, even if there is no tax payable. See the CRA’s T2 filing requirements for details.

A T2 corporate tax return is generally due within 6 months of the corporation’s year-end. If the year-end falls on the last day of a month, the filing deadline is the last day of the sixth month after year-end. See the CRA’s corporate tax return deadline guide for timing examples.

The balance owing is generally due 2 months after year-end, or 3 months after year-end for eligible CCPCs that meet CRA’s conditions. Most corporations also have to file electronically. See the CRA’s T2 electronic filing rules for current requirements.
