Corporate tax and accounting services in Langley

The corporate year-end sets the owner’s salary and dividends. The books underneath decide whether any of it survives a review. We prepare all of it in one office, so no filing contradicts another.

Corporate deadlines

Corporate tax filing deadlines in BC

Corporate deadlines run off your fiscal year-end, not the calendar. Two dates matter and they are not the same one, which is where most late-interest charges come from.

Work out your company’s exact dates with our corporate tax deadline calculator →

Estimate the tax itself with our BC corporate tax calculator →

Behind by a few years? With CRA authorization we read your CRA account and pull what CRA already holds. We prepare the returns oldest first and answer whatever mail follows. The late-filing penalty stops the day a return is filed, not the day it is paid.

For business owners

Closing your books decides more than your tax bill

A year-end fixes your salary and dividend split, your instalments and your payroll deadline for the year ahead. Those decisions are cheap before the fiscal year closes and expensive after. We prepare the statements and the T2 together, from books kept in the same office.

  • Corporate returns (T2) and year-end financial statements
  • Bookkeeping cleanup before filing
  • Payroll and GST/PST filings
  • Owner compensation — salary vs. dividends
  • Shareholder loan continuity tracked, not guessed at
Books not ready?

Bring it in anyway

We prepare catch-up corporate returns for companies that have missed several years. Unopened CRA envelopes and a shoebox of receipts are normal here. Bring any letters CRA has sent. We check your CRA account, list what is actually outstanding, and put the fee in writing before any work begins.

  • Prior-year returns prepared oldest first
  • Missing slips pulled from your CRA account
  • Books rebuilt from bank statements, however far behind
  • CRA letters answered as your authorized representative
  • Cleanup scope agreed before we start

Why incorporated businesses choose JD Tax

01

You know whose desk it is on

Greg prepares every corporate year-end and all estate and trust work himself. Nicole prepares personal returns, and Greg reviews every one before it is filed. Gabrielle handles payroll and administration. The same names next year.

02

The fee in writing first

You get a checklist at the start. The fee goes to you in writing before work begins. Documents move through the secure portal. We reply within one business day, or two during tax season.

03

Explained before it is filed

You hear what is being filed and what the corporation owes or is owed. That happens before the return goes to CRA, not after the notice of assessment arrives.

If CRA writes to you

When CRA writes to you, we answer them

Most CRA letters are routine. A review, a request for receipts, a proposed adjustment. Each one carries a reply date, and your options narrow once it passes. With CRA authorization, we can speak to CRA for you. Forward the letter and we take it from there.

01

You forward the letter

Portal, photo, or the envelope itself at the Langley office. Unopened is fine.

02

We tell you what it says

We tell you what CRA wants and when the reply is due. You hear whether money is at stake.

03

We draft and file the response

We build it from your records and file it by CRA’s deadline. You see it first.

04

We see it through

We answer the follow-ups and check the assessment against what was filed. You are told when it is closed.

Before you send anything

What we need to start your corporate tax return

Most of it you already have. The list is short because we would rather ask for the missing piece than send you hunting through a generic checklist.

The basics

Prior-year T2 and notice of assessment, the year-end bookkeeping file, and bank and credit card statements through to year-end.

If they apply

GST and payroll filings for the year, loan or lease agreements signed during the year, and details of any vehicle used for business.

What we ask you about

Money taken out of the company, anything bought or sold that was not routine, and whether the shareholders changed.

If the books are behind, send what exists and we will tell you what is missing. Cleanup is quoted separately so the year-end fee stays predictable.

GST and PST

Sales tax filing, alongside your corporate taxes

If your company is registered for GST, the returns and the year-end have to agree. When they do not, CRA notices — and the reassessment usually arrives long after the money has been spent.

We file GST returns monthly, quarterly or annually depending on your reporting period, reconcile them against the books as part of the year-end, and flag input tax credits that were claimed on the wrong side of a period.

BC PST is separate, and not every business needs to register. If you sell goods or certain services in BC we will tell you whether you are caught by it rather than leaving you to guess.

The one that catches owners out

The $30,000 small-supplier threshold is measured over four consecutive quarters, not a calendar year. Businesses cross it mid-year, keep invoicing without GST, and find out at the year-end that they owed it from the month they crossed.

We watch the running total for clients whose revenue is anywhere near it, because the fix is cheap beforehand and expensive afterwards.

FAQ

Questions we get before the first call

What does a corporate year-end cost?

Our base fee for a corporate year-end is $1,800. From there it depends on transaction volume, how current the bookkeeping is, and whether there are GST, payroll or shareholder loan issues to sort out. We quote a fixed fee after a short call and a look at the prior-year return. The quote holds unless the scope changes, and if it does we tell you before doing the work, not after.

Can you take over books that are behind?

Yes, and it is a large part of what we do. We review the current file, identify missing statements and unreconciled accounts, and confirm the cleanup scope in writing before starting so the cost is not open-ended.

Do I need to tell my current accountant before switching?

No. We contact them directly to request your records and prior-year working papers. You sign the CRA authorization and an engagement letter. That is the extent of your involvement, and they are expected to hand the file over.

Do I have to come into the Langley office?

No. Most corporate files are handled entirely through the secure portal, email and video call, and we file for corporations across BC that have never set foot in either office. Walk-ins are welcome in Langley if you would rather do it in person.

Do you file the shareholders’ personal returns too?

Yes. Nicole prepares personal returns and Greg reviews every one before it is filed. Shareholder returns are usually prepared alongside the corporate year-end so the salary and dividend reporting agrees.

Which bookkeeping software do you work with?

QuickBooks, Sage, CaseWare and Wave. If you are on desktop software or spreadsheets we can still work with the file, and we will tell you whether migrating is worth it for your transaction volume rather than assuming it is.

How quickly do you reply?

Within one business day, or two during tax season. Phone hours are Monday to Friday, 9–2, extended to 9–5 through March and April and 9–3 until June 15.

Book a 15-minute call about your corporate taxes

We will confirm what you need, what we will ask you for, and what it costs. Have your fiscal year-end date handy and it is a more useful call. If we are not the right fit we will say so on the call rather than after an engagement letter.

Before you book

  • Your fiscal year-end date
  • What bookkeeping system you use, if any
  • Whether the last year-end was filed, and by whom
  • Any outstanding CRA letters
  • Roughly how many transactions a month

You do not need any of it to book. It just means we can quote instead of guessing.
